Hydrocele
A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around a testicle that causes swelling of the scrotum. It is often painless but can feel heavy or uncomfortable when large.
हाइड्रोसील — अंडकोष के आसपास द्रव जमा होने से अंडकोश में सूजन को हाइड्रोसील कहते हैं। यह सूजन अक्सर दर्दरहित होती है, लेकिन बड़ी होने पर भारीपन या असहजता हो सकती है।
What you may notice
- Painless or mildly uncomfortable scrotal swelling
- A feeling of heaviness
- Swelling that may slowly increase in size
- Occasional discomfort during activity when large
लक्षणों की तीव्रता हर मरीज में अलग हो सकती है। लक्षण लगातार बने रहें तो चिकित्सकीय जांच कराना उचित है।
Why it can happen
- Fluid accumulation around the testicle
- It may be present from birth in children
- Inflammation, injury or infection can contribute in some adults
- Sometimes it occurs along with another scrotal condition
कारण हर मरीज में अलग हो सकते हैं; जीवनशैली, पहले की बीमारियों और अन्य जोखिम कारकों को ध्यान में रखा जाता है।
How it is evaluated
Examination helps distinguish hydrocele from other causes of scrotal swelling. Ultrasound may be recommended to assess the testicle and exclude a hernia, tumour or other condition.
लक्षणों और चिकित्सकीय जांच के आधार पर निदान किया जाता है। आवश्यकता के अनुसार डॉक्टर अतिरिक्त जांच या इमेजिंग की सलाह दे सकते हैं।
What treatment may involve
Observation may be appropriate when a hydrocele is small and not troublesome. Persistent or large symptomatic hydroceles may require a procedure or surgery. The underlying cause should be assessed before treatment.

Do not ignore warning signs
- Sudden severe testicular pain
- Rapid swelling after injury
- Fever with scrotal redness
- A new hard lump in the testicle
